3 Wheel Double Buggy

A great option for parents who want to take their kids off-road, the Fox 5 is a true all-terrain pram. It comes with a suspension that is impressive and has large wheels that are puncture-proof.

Our tester Claire was impressed by the clean, easy-to-open packaging and deemed it to be to be one of the quickest and most simple pieces of baby gear to put together. She tried it on some rough terrain and was impressed with its performance.

Seats

Most 3 wheel double buggies are initially single pushchairs. However, some can convert to take an additional seat or carrycot using adapters (these are more commonly found in tandem buggies). You'll also find that some models will allow you to add a ride-on board for older children who wish to walk but still need some assistance.

For a light-weight option that is ideal for city streets, check out the Joie Evalite Duo. It's easy to move, and it has a large basket with lots of storage. It can accommodate twins from at birth and will accept two car seats, or a carrycot with seat. The seats are required to face forwards and there's no space for a shopping bag under, so you'll need a sidepack for that.

If you like to travel off-road then the Mountain Buggy Duet is a great choice. It's a side by side with the slimmest footprint of any double buggy on the market. This allows it to fit through narrow doors and on public transport and allows you to climb up and down kerbs without too much trouble. Another option that is light weight is the UPPAbaby Vista 2 Double it can be used to accommodate twins or a toddler and a baby. The phil&teds dots are brilliant single buggys that can be easily adapted to accommodate two (or three!) different configurations. This is especially helpful if you have an infant in a car seat since the frame can be equipped with a wedgie for optimum lying flat, or car seat adapters to many brands.

Suspension

The quality of the suspension in a 3-wheel double buggy is crucial to how it is easy for you and your baby/s to push. A smooth ride is crucial as babies can feel every bump in the road, especially when it's on rough terrain such as grass or unpaved paths. Some models also have front wheels that lock to assist in maneuvering and navigating obstacles such as curbs.

Some models have air-filled tyres that are great for all-terrain rides, but they are prone to punctures. Make sure you have a spare set of tyres in the trunk. Certain models come with gel-filled or foam-filled tyres which are designed to cushion bumps. They are less likely to puncture, but they might be uncomfortable for your child if you decide to jog.

The side-by-side buggy is the ideal buggy for city walks. It features a fantastic suspension system that lets you effortlessly and comfortably traverse any terrain. Upgrade the duet to our dual kit to carry two children on the same footprint!

MFM reviewer Kath tested the Urban Glide 2 with her three-year-old and newborn, and found it exceptionally adept on terrains that are difficult to traverse. "It glided effortlessly over sidewalks and grass cobbles, dirt, and tracks. It was also very easy for me to navigate around corners and get up and down kerbs." The 16" rear wheels, when combined with the lockable swivel wheels on the front, make it a very stable jogging experience. The Urban Glide 2 has a variety of features, like a large seat unit with padded cover as well as a hood that has 50+ UV protection and easy-to-use and rechargeable visibility lights.

Folding

A three-wheeled double buggy can be folded up in a neat manner to be stored. There are models that fold flat and then stand up (as if they were in a pushchair) as well as those that pop up to reveal a more umbrella-style fold with the option of a brake operated by hand. The more wheels the buggy has, generally, the easier it is to maneuver on rough terrain. This is particularly true if the wheels are larger than average - this will give you more stability and make it less likely that your children will fall over or tip over.

3 wheel pushchair  is the iCandy Wave, which can be used as early as birth with an infant car seat. It it can be converted into a side-byside double buggy when your child is old enough for them to be seated next to each other. Another alternative is the phil&teds sports, which is future proof as it's brilliant as a single buggy from day one and then adapts to take two (or even 3!) in its small footprint. It features an innovative 3-wheel design that includes a sling seat for superior manoeuvrability, stability and the ability to pop the kerb.

If you're looking to jog with your kids, this is the best double buggie for jogging because it comes with a lockable swivel front wheel that can help you stay in control when you're tackling off-road or hilly tracks. It also comes with a large undercarriage basket, an adjustable handlebar, and a soft suspension for comfortable riding.

It's a light compact model that folds with just one hand. It is perfect for travel. It's compatible with numerous infant car seats, and has a handy undercarriage basket to store items. It's not cheap, but it has several standout features, such as its one-click folding and many extras, like bumper bars or raincovers.

Storage

Many are awed by the capacity of storage offered by a triple-wheeled buggy. Some models, like the Roma Atlas, have a large basket, as well as two zip pockets on the hood where you can keep your phone and keys. It's also designed for dealing with a bit of rough terrain, making it a great choice for family walks or all-terrain walks.

Other models, such as the UPPAbaby Vista 2, offer plenty of space and the possibility of transporting twins or a toddler and a child. (This is possible thanks to their 'PiggyBack' board). It's the most compact side-by-side double in the market and comes with some impressive tech including games-changing LED lights on both sides of the frame to improve security in low-light conditions.

If you're looking for something different you can choose the Joie Evalite Duo is a lightweight buggy that can accommodate twins from birth (it's world-facing and has an upright position). This allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds.
